Kyoto culture continued to flourish,and incense spread among the common people.Meiji Period Onwards1867 to PresentMany temples and shrinesbuilt during these erascontinue to be preservedin Kyoto today. It isthe center of tourism inJapan, and is a populardestination for peoplefrom around the world.Kamakura Periodca. 1192 - ca. 1333It was approximately140 years from whenMinamoto no Yoritomocreated the KamakuraShogunate in 1192 untilits demise. This was theera in which warriors heldpower and warrior politics first came into existence.Muromachi Periodca. 1333 - ca. 1573In 1338, AshikagaTakauji created ashogunate in Kyotothat spanned 240years. Kitayama andHigashiyama culture wasborn, and culture spread throughout thecountryside.17
