概要

Everything about Incense

What Is Aromatic Wood?In Focus7Aromatic wood refers to natural trees that give off fragrances. It is used as aningredient in incense. Three famous types are kyara, agarwood, and sandalwood.Even the same type of aromatic wood gives off a different fragrance depending onthe individual tree. For a long time these deep scents have fascinated people.AgarwoodThis aromatic wood is made when, due to various external reasons, resingathers and hardens on a part of a treethat matures while it withers away. It’s produced in tropical rain forestareas, such as the Indochina Peninsulaand Indonesia.KyaraWhile kyara comes into existence throughbasically the same process as that of agarwood,it is held to be special due to the difference inthe quality of its smell and resin. In koh-do(“incense ceremony”), agarwood is dividedinto six types, called“Rikkoku.”Kyara is thetype with the highest quality. In the past, Kyaracould be found in certain areas of Vietnam, but it has become increasingly hard to find andtherefore very valuable.46
